NKSIS held successfully an academic seminar with a theme on ‘North Korea's recent situation and Civil Society integration of North and South: Is it possible a reunified road map?’ on 18thDecember at NPO center in Seoul.
The seminar began with keynote speeches of Lee Joon-ik(deputy by Kim Gwang-in), the chairman of Korea Modernization alliance and Lee Yun-Keol, the representative of NKSIS. Lee Joon-ik said “Now we should seek a sincere unified approach based on the reality of North Korea.” Lee Yun-keol explained resent North Korea’s situation after the political purge of Jang Sung-taek. He said Kim Jong-un’s regime risk has been weighted because of the absence of internal controlling influence after the appearance of another hard line forces that replaced latest Jang’s group. This can be a potential to grow rapidity, but Kim Jong-un will be likely to handle it with a tough way for residents by following the path of his father, Kim Jong-il, to maintain their system. Because of, History has also raised the possibility that the political instability of Pyongyang will lead to an additional nuclear test.
The facilitator Yeom Don-jay, dean of Graduate school of strategic studies in Sunkyukwan university, led a discussion. First, Kwon Oh-joong, head of the institute for diplomacy and national defence, presented about ‘True meaning of unification and prospects’. Afterward, Kim Jin-moo(researcher of Korea Institute for Defense Analyses) of military sector, Kim Myoung-jun(professor at Seogang university) of cultural sector, Kim Gwang-in(head of Korea Modernization alliance) and Im Eul-chul(professor of institute for far eastern studies) had a discussion.
Director Yeom donjae demonstrated skills built up over a long time standing on the cutting edge of social progress and the NK Information' research in NIS of Korea, arbitrated discussion very smoothly. In particular, he explained last "Sunshine Policy" of seeking regime was clearly the case in the rest of the time went blindly led North Korea did not know about North Korea's internal situation. Following Lim Eul-Chul professor emphasized the aspect that we need to worry about the way we can survive in competition of North’s resources with world neighboring power with the course of weakening of Kim’s regime. Dr. Kim Gwang-In also reconfirmed that any effort to reach a peaceful reunification is meaningless without an agreement with North Korean people through fundamental change of Kim family’s ruling(collapse). In addition, he discussed about the impact of reunification in society to processing peaceful solution.
