In North Korea, there are 3,000 high-quality workers (elites) that conduct research and live solely for the Kim dynasty’s health, working through an organization called the Long Life Research Institute. The LLRI is divided into three institutes, the Chung-am-san Institute, Manchung-san Institute, and the Basic Science Institute.
Among the three, the Basic Science Institute is the largest in scale, Chung-am-san Institute is the second and the Manchung-san Institute is the last. In order of intrinsic quality, the Chung-am-san Institute would rate as the highest, followed by the Manchung-san Institute, and lastly the Basic Science Institute.
Chung-am-san Institute is affiliated with the 965 Division of the Security Forces and is located in Yongsung district, Pyongyang. Manchung-san Institute is affiliated with the financial department of Keumsoo-san Assembly located in Botonggang District, Pyongyang. The Basic Science Institute belongs to the Central Party financial accounting and it is located in Daesung District, Pyongyang.
While all of these institutes seem strikingly similar and exist only for the sake of Kim dynasty’s family health, the purpose of each institute’s research is distinct from its counterparts. Chung-am-san Institute has 120 governmental researchers with advance degrees and 280 assistant researchers conducting studies for the food, disease and health related researches for the supreme leader and his direct family (Ko Young-Hee and Kim Jong-un). However, the total number of workers in the Chung-am-san Institute cannot be determined as all of the workers wear an official uniform and maintain strict secrecy. Their total number has not been revealed. An informer who works as a high ranking official said in February 2009 that the Chung-am san Institute was the first to receive the command to conduct studies related to Kim Jung-un’s health.
‘Manchung-san Institute’ has 130 employees and 70 governmental leading researchers with advanced degrees who focus their studies on food, diseases, and health of the Kim Dynasty’s close aides that attend to all of the events for Kim’s special lifestyle. The foods and the health-related products produced by the Manchung-san Institute would be used, for example, in Kim Dynasty’s ‘No. 1 Event,’ or in the guest houses for Kim’s close aides. The Basic Science Institutes has 700 highly educated governmental researchers, as well as 1,800 general employees. They conduct all the foundational studies on health, food and the daily matters of the Kim’s family. In total, the combined number of the agency researchers in the province along with those assigned to protect those institutes would be over 3,000 people working solely for the health of the Kim’s Dynasty.
At Kim Jong-un’s recent elevation and appearance, and the celebration of Kim Jong-Il’s 70th birthday on February 16, 2011, NKSIS 2.16 Special will produce a series revealing how North Korea’s Long Life Institute only exists for the Kim’s life of debauchery and luxury that contrasts with the life of the normal citizens who suffer famine and starvation.
