“Bong Hwa” Squad was created in the early 2000, and it was known that its members are in their 30s or 40s. 32-year old Kim Jong Chol, Kim Jong Un’s brother, is the current leader of this secret squad. As “Bong Hwa” means the “pioneers,” it is the core organization in the power structure of North Korea.
According to the source, some of the main members of this secret organization are Oh Sye Hyun, former vice chairman of the National Defense Committee Oh Gum Chol’s second son, Kim Chul, Vice Chairman of the army’s General Political Bureau Kim Won Hong’s oldest son, Lee Il Hyuk, oldest son of former diplomat in Swiss Lee Chul, who managed most of Kil Il Sung’s slush funds, Kang Tae Sung, vice chairman of the Cabinet Kang Seok Joo’s oldest son, Cho Sung Ho, former Vice-marshal and First Vice-Chairman of the National Defense Commission Cho Myung Rok’s second son. It is estimated that there are 20~30 more members who are the high officials’ sons and relatives in the organization, including vice chairman of the National Security Agency Cho Gwang Jung, Cho Myung Rok’s nephew, and Hwang Soon Hee’s grandson.
Most of them are confirmed to be the Worker’s Party high officials’ sons and educated from the Kim Il-sung University or the Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies.
Japanese broadcasting center TBS reported that Kim Jong Chol was promoted as the leader of “Bong Hwa” Squad. The veil was removed for the first time about him, who was unrevealed for a very long time.
Kim Jong Chol, once discussed as a possible successor but had no interests in politics like his older brother Kim Jong Nam, who is known as an art lover. Also, he was known to be feminine and a man with poor ill which did not suit as a marshal figure. Decisively, he fell behind to his brother when the western media described him as carpet knight.
Although Kim Jong Chol was appointed as a chief deputy of leadership division in the Worker’s Party in 2004, he was disappeared from the spotlight. According to the senior source, meanwhile he was taught by chief deputy of structure division Lee Jhe Kang.
Kim Jong Chol was known as a weak figure to oust, but Kim Jong Un and Kim Jong Chol remain a friendly relationship as they communicate one another and go to the meeting together with the core officials. Kim Jong Chol seems to be necessary for Kim Jung Un to keep the regime as he went to the same college with Kim Jong Un and took the lead to get rid of their uncle Jang Song Thaek.
